A Guide on Proper Jewelry Cleaning:

Caring for your cherished Jewelry pieces can be simple and quick, using methods and ingredients found right within your home. Keeping your jewelry gleaming not only enhances its beauty but also prevents potential damage from accumulated dirt and debris. Here’s an uncomplicated guide to maintaining the sparkle of your rings, necklaces, and earrings with minimal effort.

Selective Cleaning Based on Jewelry Type

It’s crucial to understand that various cleaning methods suit different jewelry materials. Delicate gemstones require gentler care compared to sturdier metals like gold and platinum. To avoid damaging your precious items, ensure you’re familiar with their composition. When in doubt, consult a professional to examine them.

Handling Jewelry with Gemstones

Extra caution is advised for jewelry featuring gemstones. Settings can loosen over time, risking the loss of precious stones. While many gemstones have high grades of durability, it is important to understand that gems are not indestructible. You should be careful to avoid harsh chemicals, abrasive surfaces, and sharp blows to your Jewelry throughout your day-to-day routine. It’s wise to have such pieces inspected by a jeweler before attempting home cleaning.

Diamond Maintenance

Over time it is natural for lotions, soaps, powder, and even the natural oils from your skin to build up on your diamond causing it to become smudged and dusty. Therefore, cleaning your diamond rings, diamond earrings and other types of diamond jewelry is important in order to restore their natural brilliance. Allurez Jewelers suggest four different ways to clean your diamond:

Allurez Eco-Friendly Jewelry Cleaning Care Kit:

Our kit includes everything you need to clean and maintain your Diamond Jewelry from start to finish.

Cold Water Soak:

Soak your diamond for several minutes in a solution of 4 parts cold water and 1 part very mild dishwashing detergent. Remove your fine jewelry from the solution and gently clean the mounting with a soft brush. Rinse your jewelry in the solution once more, remove, and drain on tissue paper.

Detergent Bath:

In a prepared bowl of warm and mild household liquid detergent (chlorine-free!) wash your jewelry with a soft-bristled brush. On a strainer, rinse off your jewelry with warm water. Pat dry with a soft lint-free cloth. (It is important to not clean or rinse your jewelry over the drain!)

Ultrasonic Cleaner:

There are many different ultrasonic cleaning machines available to the public today.  Usually, the jewelry is placed in a metal cup, which is filled with water and detergent, and the machine provides a high-frequency turbulence that will clean your diamond.

The Toothbrush Method

Another cleaning option is to use the toothbrush method, which involves using simple household items. This method is safe for most jewelry pieces.

Essential Tools & Ingredients:

Mild dish soap
Toothbrush with soft bristles
Soft, lint-free cloth

Step 1: Mix Your Solution

Start by creating a mild cleaning solution: simply mix a bit of dish soap with lukewarm water.

Dip your soft-bristle toothbrush into the soapy mixture. Using gentle, circular motions, carefully scrub your jewelry to target grime and dirt in those hard-to-reach nooks and crevices.

Step 3: Rinse Thoroughly

Once you’ve loosened the dirt, rinse your jewelry under a gentle stream of lukewarm water. Make sure all soap is completely washed away to avoid any residues.
