As summer comes to an end, people soon enough will start swapping their bathing suits and sandals for sweaters and boots. And although we much prefer the heat to the freezing cold, something to look forward to as the weather changes is a little bling that will help liven up your cold weather looks. That’s why we’re starting to pay attention to fall 2020 jewelry trends.

This past February, statement necklaces, bright-colored gems, and charm bracelets graced the runways in New York City, London, Milan, and Paris as designers debuted their fall 2020 collections. We’ve gathered a list of our favorites and here are some of the fall 2020 jewelry trends you’ll be seeing everywhere this season.

Large Costume Gems

“We’re talking gigantic stones, in round-, pear-, and emerald-cut shapes,” Cosmopolitan reported, noting that the look was seen on the runway of Prabal Gurung among others, such as rhinestone hanging earrings, large crystal and and faux pearl earrings.

Marie Claire stated, “While we love pavé for all-around sparkle, this season it’s about a big ol’ statement gem as seen at Saint Laurent and Miu Miu. And just so we’re clear: the bigger the stone, the more fun you’re going to have!”

Chains Upon Chains

Large chunky chains have been around for a little while now, and they don’t seem to be going anywhere. Ulla Johnson and Louis Vuitton were among the designers that featured them on the runway when debuting their fall collections as well as Victoria Beckham, who had models wear many dainty gold chains stacked on top of each otherChunky links with a delicate pearl attached make beautiful earrings as well as large chain bracelets. “You’ll want to stack up on these bracelets this season, and maybe take a peek at a matching necklace while you’re at it,” according to Cosmopolitan.

Piled-On Pearls

Get ready to see lots of pearls this fall in the form of earrings, necklaces, rings and bracelets. From baby pearl studs becoming your new everyday earring to a delicate pearl necklace, there are so many ways to fit this trend into all your fall outfits.

“The popularity of pearls shows no sign of abating,” said Vogue. “Revived at Chanel, they also washed up at the anti-establishment Koché, suggesting that these gems can roll two ways: lady and vamp.”

“Pearls have made a major comeback and don’t seem to be heading anywhere anytime soon,” said Marie Claire. “For fall, try layering them in various lengths like at Chanel or pairing different pearl shapes together as seen at March Jacobs. It’s all about pulling a double-duty look when it comes to pearls.”

Who What Wear reported: “Instead of traditional strands of pearls, brands like Chanel are introducing unique silhouettes, new proportions, and mixed materials like gold-chain details—whether dramatic, cascading Baroque pearl earrings or necklace strings with pearls in mismatched shapes.”

Charm bracelets

Many of us had charm bracelets growing up and its now time to bring them back out. Christian Dior featured them on the runway and there are so many variations to this trend. You can feature small sentimental charms, or even crystals and stones. The fun part is that it’s not just the charmed bracelets that are becoming trendy. Charmed earrings, and charmed necklaces, are a thing too. Chanel even featured on the runway pearl charm bracelets.

“No other piece of jewelry feels as sweet and nostalgic as a classic charm bracelet,” said Marie Claire. “On the runway they were shown on bracelets, necklaces (like Alexander McQueen and Dior) and earrings. While accumulating charms for birthdays and milestones has great sentimental value, jewelry designers have made some stylish shortcuts.”

Ultra Long Necklaces

Throw a long necklace over your sweater, shirt, or dress and voila, as seen on the runway of Brandon Maxwell. You can wear the necklace solo or layered. It’ll probably also look good with some gold chains.

Mis-Matched Earrings

“This kind of styling has been around for a few years, but now, it’s even more pronounced with models wearing one drop design and one hoop, one ear with an earring and one without, and more creative permutations,” Cosmopolitan said. Wear one earring solo or pair it with a hoop earring on the other side. If you’re not ready to fully commit to this trend of overtly mismatched earrings, there are beautiful stud earrings that are a more subtle way to test the style and see if you like it.

Statement Chokers

The choker necklace trend looks a little different this time around. Some are made of fabric, some feature crystals, and others are designed with gold. Commenting on the heavy gold chokers seen on the runway from Proenza Schouler to Chloe, Marie Claire said “Instead of ribbons or tight beaded strands, opt for a heavy metal version that sits right at the collarbone… It looks chic with basically everything and can be the one piece of jewelry you need to finish the look.”

According to Who What Wear, “While chokers have been popular in seasons past, heavier sculptural versions replaced dainty styles on the runways at brands such as Proenza Schouler and Chloé. Whether layered with knitwear or tailored outerwear, this is the statement-making piece to invest in for fall.”
