Three Jewelry Trends for 2022 Inspired by Spring/Summer Fashion

Bold is back in 2022, according to experts predicting the top jewelry trends for this year inspired by the spring/summer 2022 runway shows.

“Continuing the trends seen on fall 2021 runways and red carpets (including the Met Gala and Grammys), chunky accoutrements and retro jewelry punctuated the spring/summer 2022 shows,” said The Hollywood Reporter, citing “supersized cocktail rings at Dior and Givenchy; door-knocker earrings at Etro, Versace and Carolina Herrera; and maximalist chains on necks, earlobes and waists at Balmain, Givenchy, Tom Ford and more.”

Indeed, statement jewelry has made a comeback this year, pushing aside the dainty and delicate layered jewelry pieces that were big in 2021.

Chunky gold chains

One of the most popular jewelry trends expected to be big in 2022 is oversized, chunky links, as seen on the runways at Valentino and Hermès. Pair oversized gold chains that make a bold statement alone or layer them with other chains. This trend is a favorite of many celebrities, including Rihanna, Hailey Bieber, and British actress and model Nathalie Emmanuel.

Tracee Ellis Ross, Ashley Graham, Addison Rae, St. Vincent and Sofia Richie are also among the celebrities who are fans of gold chains.

In a recent Instagram post in honor of her 26th birthday, “Little Women” actress Florence Pugh showed off her new short hair while wearing a slouchy, oversized blue sweater, sheer black tights, a red, black, and white tartan skirt, and chunky boots. She accessorized the look with a chunky gold chain, chunky gold and pearl earrings.

Statement earrings

“From chandelier earrings to door-knocker statement pieces that nod to the Golden Age of Hollywood, vintage-inspired accessories were all over models’ lobes at Giorgio Armani, Fendi and Saint Laurent,” according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The Duchess of Cambridge turns 40 next week and to mark her birthday, Kensington Palace released new portraits of her on social media. In one portrait, which were taken at Kew Gardens in November 2021 by photographer Paolo Roversi, Kate wears a bold one sleeve red dress and accessorized the look with a pair of statement drop earrings.

Two other images were released in black and white. In one, Kate wears a light, off-the-shoulder gown with bows and drop pearl earrings, and in the other, she appears to wear a one-shoulder ruffled top or dress.

Kate’s portraits will added to the permanent collection at the National Portrait Gallery, which the Duchess is a patron of. But until the gallery re-opens in 2023, the portraits will displayed in Berkshire, St Andrews, and Anglesey, three locations that Kensington Palace said has “a special meaning to Her Royal Highness.”

Symbolic pendants

According to The Hollywood Reporter, “Lucky charms, evil eyes and hamsa hand amulets were spotted as jewelry at Stella McCartney and Markarian. Simple pendant necklaces will never go out of style, so why not add a few symbolic pieces to your jewelry mix? (Plus, they play well with maximalist chokers and charmed accessories this season.).”

Meghan Markle was spotted wearing a pendant that features a Venus symbol combined with a protesting fist that’s finished with a purple amethyst, and has even been photographed wearing an evil eye bracelet which is meant to ward off negative or unwanted energy and attract good vibes only.

Using symbolic accessories to keep away bad energy is nothing new for Markle who’s previously worn Edge of Ember pendant and a hamsa necklace also adorned with evil eyes.
